Having a tall kitchen pantry can be difficult for the vertically-challenged. Here’s a way to integrate a STEP 180 into its design.

When it comes to the kitchen pantry, it’s often an afterthought for most designers. After all, it’s typically just a large closet with a bunch of shelving to store your foodstuffs. What if a food pantry could be made in a manner that would make it more…interesting? The guys at @back.to.the.studs have done exactly that, creating an innovative design centered around one of our STEP 180 step stools. Check it out:

An Innovative Kitchen Pantry Design

With their town house being located in Brooklyn, space was at even more of a premium than it is in most kitchens. In true New York style, these guys knew the way to maximize their storage was to build up! But how would they be able to reach shelving 9 feet up?

With our Step 180 Plus cabinet step stool built into the pantry’s lower cabinets, Brad, Sean and Grace can access both sides of the pantry’s upper shelves in just seconds, with the cost in space being just a 1 1/2″ wide strip of cabinet space.

Design Around the STEP 180

When we first launched the STEP 180 back in 2017, we knew it might take a little while for the kitchen design community to wrap their heads around the best ways to integrate the cabinet step stool into new kitchens. With a novel design, it’s natural to apply it in a manner which solves the more obvious problems of conventional design.

But we also hoped that designers would be able to reconceptualize the layout of kitchens by basing their layout around the STEP 180 concept. This kitchen pantry design is a prime example of how to do that.
